This symposium is organised by the Australian Institute of Art History (AIAH) in the Faculty of Arts in collaboration with the Victorian College of the Arts (VCA), as part of the celebrations in honour of the 150th anniversary of the Victorian College of the Arts.

The University of Melbourne Archives holds the significant portion of historical records from this leading centre of academic art training. The collection includes material relating to many of the luminaries who passed through the doors of the National Gallery School, including Eugene von Guerard, Tom Roberts, Arthur Streeton, Frederick McCubbin, Hugh Ramsay, and Rose MacPherson.
