Exploring in the Archives

As part of the National Trust's 2020 Australian Heritage Festival, the University of Melbourne Archives will be hosting two tours.

Come behind the scenes at the University of Melbourne’s archival repository and learn about what and why we collect and how we share our collections.

Join specialist archivists for a behind-the-scenes look at the University of Melbourne's archival repository. Get a glimpse of the nearly twenty kilometres of records that make up the archives, with thousands of boxes of paper records, photographs, films and objects. Learn about what and why the University collects and how we make records available to researchers from international scholars through to family historians. Visitors will get a sense of the scale and breadth of the archives as well as highlights from our business, labour history, political and personal collections. From Melbourne maps, Australia’s oldest snippets of moving image to Malcolm Fraser and Germaine Greer, the collections document the people, places and communities that have shaped our society.
