Key 86: Institute of Applied Economic (and Social) Research 1962; 1969

 

Established under Dr Ronald Henderson in 1962 as the Institute of Applied Economic Research, it engaged in a wide range of social research including the comprehensive study of living standards begun in 1964 which gave rise to the influential socio-economic measure, the Henderson 'Poverty Line'.

The Institute also published the Australian Economic Review. In 1969 it absorbed the Department of Research in Social Studies. In 1996 it became the Melbourne Institute of Applied Economic and Social Research.
